Quit Yer Bitchin!

Oh my giddy Aunt!! I have never heard so much moaning and groaning until i came here. There is always someone who whines about something, and this latest change implemented by the municipality has sure upset my neighbour. He has even decided to have a one man crusade in defiance for the changes that the town has made.
And what, you may ask, could this change possibly be to make them so incensed? Why...we have been all given nice shiny new bins!

In an effort to make our town environmentally friendly, we have been given bins which will be collected by a custom made truck which pulls up, a device scoops up the bin and the rubbish is disposed of in a timely, neat fashion. Personally, i love the new bins! I am sick of struggling with black plastic bags that can be easily split and often leave their contents on the road for the animals and birds to scatter around the town. It will also encourage recycling. Which is wonderful!  Many complain that it isn't large enough, however, our new bin is only half full this week and we are a family of 4 with a toddler and a teen. They generate a lot of rubbish! (In many ways...but I digress)

Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate that it is a good thing that us as humans don't allow things that the powers- that- be to just come along and dictate to us what we have to do...however..I do find that bitching about something and not really doing anything but whining, gets us nowhere. Also, how do we know it's bad when we haven't tried it?

That is the problem, though. No one is willing to move forward. Everyone likes to keep the status quo...even if that sameness is what is killing us. (Don't get me started on renewable energy)

My only concern with these bins is I know it will mean that there will be less staff needed to collect our rubbish. I hope that those who are no longer needed will not be laid off but used to provide an improved and  more efficient service to the community. It is still necessary to have humans deal with the town in so many ways. The job as a bin man can't be pleasant and isn't nice that we can use technology to make our existence more pleasant? I hope the municipal workers will be given a new position more fitting to what we really need here. They will get a sense of pride that their job is more beneficial than just scraping potato peelings off the road because someone was too lazy to double bag when they saw a squirrel had nibbled through.

We should thank our lucky stars we live in a world where  our children are not forced to work in the huge landfills scrounging for scraps, or working in a brothel somewhere. It's time our society realised that we need to get more passionate about things that really matter. Ending poverty, homelessness, global warming..... I will stop there as that will be for another day.

I have to say, my neighbour's protest is rather entertaining though. Bless him....I should thank him for making me chuckle.... I can't want to see what the bin men think of it........  :)
